Applications are now open for the Editorial Board AY 2011-2012 of Scientia, the Official Publication of the UP Diliman, College of Science! Any UPD, College of Science student planning to enroll this AY 2011-2012 is encouraged to apply. No experience in Scientia is required, but applicants must demonstrate leadership skills and mastery of craft in writing/illustrating/layout/management/ photography in order to be considered for a position in the Editorial Board.
Positions available for Scientia Editorial Board AY 2011-2012
Associate Editor-in-Chief/Webmaster
- Advises EIC regarding the managements of Scientia
- In charge of updating all online accounts including: Facebook Page, Twitter and most especially, Online Scientia: upscientia.blogspot.com
News Editor
- In charge of assigning, editing and writing articles for any current events pertaining to the College of Science, UP Diliman, the Philippines and the World.
Features Editor
- In charge of assigning, editing and writing feature articles regarding updates in Science, Health and Lifestyle.
Cultures Editor
- In charge of assigning, editing and writing culture articles regarding popular culture.
Literary Editor
- In charge of assigning, editing and writing literary work.
Head Illustrator/Head Graphic Artist
- In charge of assigning and doing illustrations for writers/editors.
Head Photographer
- In charge of compiling photographs of events to be written about.
Layout Editor
- In charge of the layout team for Scientia and layout team for Online Scientia.
Managing Editor
- Handles the process and paperwork of getting Scientia published.
- Must also be skilled in editing and writing (should she/he choose to or be assigned to by the EIC)
How to apply:

1. Personal statement: 1-2 pages stating (a) Your top 2 position choices. (b) Why you believe you are fit for these positions. (c) Your general plans for Scientia if you do get in. (d) Any previous experience (High School/College) (e) Current positions held in other organizations .
2a. *FOR ASSOCIATE EIC/NEWS/FEATURES/LITERARY/CULTURE: ONE previously written article, preferably relating to the position you are applying for. ONE article, less than one page, centered about the statement “The tooth fairy teaches children that they can sell body parts for money.” Interpret this in any way you like.
2b. *FOR HEAD ILLUSTRATOR: ONE of your best illustrations (hand-drawn). ONE of your best graphic designs (digital).
2c. *FOR HEAD PHOTOGRAPHER: TEN of your best shots, demonstrating diversity of your skill.
2d. *FOR LAYOUT EDITOR: FOUR pages of sample layouts. PLUS, you must layout this sample article, as if it were in the pages of Scientia: http://www.healthcastle.com/best-healthiest-foods.shtml
2e. *FOR MANAGING EDITOR: ONE page listing your experience in management of any publication/organization/financial statements/official documents/etc.
Your applications will be assessed based on your skills, personal drive and previous experience.
You may submit applications until May 28, 2011, SATURDAY. Announcements will be made by May 30, latest.
