A Father, Mentor, Friend and Hero
By Joey Cuayo
Many remember Dr. Daniel Lagunzad as a brilliant man. He had a sharp mind and an equally sharp wit. His students recall with fondness his lectures that would always be more than just about ecology and plant taxonomy. He was a man full of life, and as news of his passing reached the ears of his friends, colleagues, students and family, many were left in disbelief.
In one of his final lectures, Sir Dan, as his students fondly called him, said, "It is only when you experience surreal unnatural things that you realize your mind is bound with a lot of things." He encouraged his students to open their minds and their hearts to the world so that they may learn, experience and discover all that it has to offer.
Dr. Daniel Lagunzad will be missed by all those who knew him. He will always be remembered as a vibrant, strong and brilliant man.
Thank you for your stories, wisdom and all the experiences, Sir Dan. We miss you.
