One of the annual events of the Institute of Biology is the Biology Majors’ Day. This event, held last August 15, showed the fun and athletic side of biology majors through a showcase of activities and games.
The day started early in the morning with a fun run around the academic oval and a light breakfast afterwards in the Institute of Biology (IB) lobby wherein the students “feasted” on pandesal, sandwich spreads and drinks. Sports activities at the Teachers’ Village covered court which included men’s basketball, mixed volleyball, “catch the dragon’s tail” and dodge ball soon followed. First and third year students teamed up as the blue team while second, fourth and graduate students teamed together as the red team. The IB faculty and students also had a tree planting activity in the afternoon at the new IB building construction site.
The day culminated with a program at the IB lobby. Dr. Perry S. Ong, the Institute Director of IB, gave the welcoming remarks for the event. Student presentations from undergraduate and graduate students showcasing their singing and dancing talents among many others became the main highlight of the event. Parlor games in between student presentations were also enjoyed by the students, faculty and staff alike. The day then ended with the awarding of prizes for the sports activity and parlor game winners and closing remarks by Dr. Jonathan A. Anticamara, one of the institute’s esteemed professors.
This year’s Bio Majors’ Day was headed by the CS Student Council in cooperation with the different biology-based organizations.
